Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 2026
1. What we collect
We collect: your email address (for authentication, or provided by Google/Apple if you sign in that way); profile information you provide (name, profession, language preferences); vocabulary words and sentences you add; quiz attempt results; conversation transcripts; and, if you use our mobile app, basic device session data (platform, OS version, device model, app version) used to keep you signed in across devices. We also collect minimal usage logs for debugging purposes.
2. What we do NOT collect
We do not collect payment information (there is no paid plan). We do not use device data to build advertising profiles or track you across other apps or websites.
3. Signing in with Google or Apple
If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your email address and name from that provider to create your account. We do not receive or store your Google/Apple password. You can revoke Phraseq's access at any time from your Google or Apple account settings.
4. How we use your data
Your data is used to: power your personal vocabulary vault, quizzes, daily words, and conversations; personalise AI-generated sentences to your profession and target language; calculate your learning streak and mastery scores. We do not use your data to train AI models, and we do not sell it to third parties.
5. AI features
Phraseq's AI features (word generation, sentence practice, quizzes, conversations) are powered by a third-party AI provider (currently Zhipu AI's GLM models), billed to and paid for by Phraseq — you do not need to provide an API key. When you use AI features, your words and selected contexts are sent to our AI provider for processing. We do not store raw AI request payloads beyond what is needed to display results in the app. The provider's processing of that data is governed by our agreement with them, not by any account you hold with them directly.
6. Data storage
Your data is stored in Supabase (PostgreSQL), hosted in the United States. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest.
7. Cookies and local storage
We use browser local storage to store your theme preference and notification settings. We use Supabase Auth session cookies to keep you signed in. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
8. Data retention
Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your account and all associated data — including your login identity — are permanently deleted from our systems. If your account is deactivated (not deleted), data is retained for 90 days before deletion.
9. Your rights
You have the right to: access all data we hold about you; export your word vault (contact us); correct inaccurate data (via Settings); delete your account and all associated data (via Settings → Danger zone). For data requests, contact privacy@phraseq.app.
10. Children's privacy
Phraseq is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us immediately.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We will notify users of material changes via email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use after that date constitutes acceptance.
